Realme X50 5G vs Oppo Reno3 Pro Compared – Which is best?

We already know pretty much everything about the Realme X50 5G, but it has now been officially announced.

Realme joins OPPO with a new upper mid-range 5G phone powered by the Snapdragon 765G. OPPO went a strange route launching two models, one with the new Mediatek Dimensity 1000L for the standard model, and the other with Snapdragon 765G, but by the looks of things the Mediatek Dimensity 1000L is a better chipset.

In the past, OPPO and Realme have launched some suspiciously similar phones, with the Oppo Reno Ace appearing to be a clone of the Realme X2 Pro.

This time around there is a little bit of difference between the two phones, but they still share a lot of similarities.

Screen, Design and Dimensions

The Realme is 163.8 x 75.8 x 8.9 mm weighing 202 g, with a screen size of 6.57 inches running at 1080 x 2400 pixels.

The display itself is an IPS screen that has a 120Hz refresh rate.

OPPO, on the other hand, is a bit smaller and lighter at 159.4 x 72.4 x 7.7 mm weighing 171 g, with a 6.5-inch display running at the same resolution.

This, however, is AMOLED which should give superior performance over the IPS display. However, it runs a little slower at 90Hz. The OPPO also has a slight cure wrapping into the edges of the screen minimising the bezel. This gives the Reno3 an 89.7% screen-to-body ratio vs 83.9% of the Realme X50 5G and overall, it looks like a much more attractive phone.

Both phones have a punch-hole display but the Realme uses a double-punch hole.

The Realme uses a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, because of the IPS display. While the AMOLED display of the OPPO allows for an under-display scanner.

Chipset, RAM and Storage

Both phones use the Snapdragon 765G chipset, though the non-Pro OPPO has the Mediatek Dimensity 1000L.

They both have the same base spec of 8GB and 128GB, oddly Realme then has a 6GB+256GB model, and they both have 12GB+256GB.

Camera

The Realme uses a 64MP primary camera with f/1.8 while the OPPO is 48 MP f/1.7. It looks like the OPPO has OIS on the main lens but Realme does not.

Both have a telephoto lens capable of 2x optical zoom, but the Realme is 12 MP f/3.0 vs 13 MP f/2.4 of the OPPO.

Both have an ultra-wide lens this time the Realme uses 8 MP f/2.3 and 1.12µm but the OPPO is a bit better with 8 MP f/2.2 and a larger 1.4µm sensor.

The Realme has a 2 MP f/2.4 Macro lens but the OPPO uses a 2 MP f/2.4 black and white lens.

For the front camera, the Realme has a dual-lens arrangement with a 16 MP f/2.0 lens and an 8 MP f/2.2 ultrawide. OPPO has just one 32 MP f/2.4 camera.

Connectivity

I wouldn’t normally bother pointing out connectivity, in this case, we know they are both 5G.

However, OPPO bumps other the connectivity specs by including 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6) and it has the newer Bluetooth 5.1.

Both have NFC

Battery and Charging

The Realme has a larger 4200 mAh battery while the OPPO has a 4025 mAh battery, both phones use the 30W VOOC Flash Charge 4.0.

Price

We have no idea of UK pricing or availability.

The Realme X50 5G has a base price of CNY 2,499 so £273

The OPPO Reno3 with the same base spec is CNY 3,999 or £438

Overall

The OPPO does quite a lot to differentiate it from the Realme but with a 60% price difference in China, that is quite steep. We don’t know if or when the phones will be launched in the UK, but hopefully the prices will even out a little.
