The (actually good) tech deals in Amazon’s Summer Sale

Having tested the waters with some Echo discounts and cut-price clothing, Amazon is joining Currys, John Lewis and Argos with some decent, not spectacular, July tech sales. After a scout around of the ‘summer deals’ that have gone live so far, Amazon has the best prices of the bunch on most tech products, with discounts on fitness trackers, 4K TVs, gaming headsets and tablets, but we’ve included a few good deals from elsewhere, too.
The Prime Day sale is likely delayed until September, so this is probably your lot for Amazon tech bargains until then. End dates vary from midnight on 6 July to the 10/12/20 July, so look out for the countdown timer for one day deals.

What is it? Amazon has a range of Garmin gadgets on sale this week – our pick is the Vivosmart 4, a neat alternative to Fitbit that made it into our WIRED Recommends best fitness trackers guide thanks to its slim design, rich sleep tracking and useful Body Battery recovery metrics.
What’s the real saving? The Vivosmart 4 is down from £100 to £75 and Amazon has the best price right now.

What is it? If you go for AirPods we strongly recommend the AirPods Pro (£219) but now that the second gen AirPods are £30 off (again) and thus around half the price, you might be more tempted by the more affordable wireless earbuds.
What’s the real saving? That “(again)” refers to the fact that this is the exact price the AirPods went down to last Black Friday. So even though it’s six months later, that looks to be the price floor Apple is sticking to for now. The AirPods with wireless charging case are also back down to £159 this week.

What is it? Our fave Echo Dot and our current recommendation for an entry into the Alexa smart home. It’s compact and unobtrusive with a useful clock and superb sound (for a Dot).
What’s the real saving? If it feels like mere days since you last saw the Echo Dot range on sale, that’s because it was. In mid June it was down to £35, now it’s slightly lower again at £30 a pop. That’s technically half price and at least £10 off what we’ve seen it sell for in the past few months.

What is it? This lightweight and accessible design is the best fitness smartwatch, if you want to use Fitbit’s ecosystem. There’s no built-in GPS (it tags onto your phone’s) but with a bright, clear screen, four days of battery, on-wrist smartphone alerts and heart rate monitoring, it’s an affordable companion.
What’s the real saving? That depends on the exact model you go for. The peach strap is down to £135, whereas the black model is £141 and the Versa Special Edition with lavender strap is £144.

More summer deals from Amazon, Currys & John Lewis
£15 off Steelseries Arctic Pro with GameDAC, down to £185: We’ve seen this go down to £175 in the past but £15 off is still worth considering for locked down gamers. It’s a very capable wired headset with strong audio performance, hence the nod in our best gaming headsets guide.
A Dyson V10 Absolute cordless vac for £399: That’s £50 off last year’s top-end cordless Dyson with the same deal currently running at both Currys and John Lewis.
Get a Huawei MateBook 13 laptop for £690: Huawei’s problems with Western countries continue but buying a Huawei laptop is less of an issue than a Google services-less smartphone. The MateBook 13 was one of our top laptop recommendations until it dropped out in favour of more recent machines – this AMD model is £60 off.
Get a 55-inch Philips 4K TV for £459: Philips has put a few sizes of its 6814 TVs on sale this week; we’d go for the 55-inch with HDR 10+, Dolby Atmos and Alexa. It’s a bit of a steal at almost £150 off.
Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S6 Lite with LTE is £359: You can get the regular Tab S6 Lite for £309 but the cellular version of the 10.4-inch Android tablet is £40 off, down to £359 at Amazon and Currys. You get the S Pen, a solid processor, good stereo speakers and long battery life.
The Garmin 66W dash cam is down to £135: A dash cam is just the kind of thing we hate to pay full price for and you can pick up Garmin’s 66W for £34 off this week. We rated the 65W and the 66W offers a higher Full HD resolution.
£55 off a 43-inch Panasonic LED TV: This Full HD Pana from 2018 would make a great bedroom or second TV. Down from £330 to £275 with Freeview HD built in.
Get a UE Boom 3 for £75, £18 off: It’s not our top UE Bluetooth speaker pick – that’s the Megaboom 3 (£128) – but you could do worse than £75 on a UE Boom 3 that’s a couple of years old but remains fun and super portable with a 15 hour battery. Down from £93.
£65 off a Philips Hue Starter Kit: An Amazon sale staple, you can get three smart light bulbs and a bridge for £85. Think that’s still a bit steep? They’re the best smart bulbs around, plus they work with everything and last for ages.
