Serial leaker Digital Chat Station has revealed the existence of a new affordable OPPO A72 phone set to launch soon.
The phone has popped up a couple of times in the past, including on Chinese certifying authority TENAA’s website earlier this month. China Telecom also lists the phone with some key details.
The smartphone is a relatively standard affordable/midrange affair and has a 6.5″ 90Hz display with a punch hole in the top-left corner for the 8MP selfie camera. Around the back, you get a 16MP primary camera joined by 8MP (likely ultrawide) and 2MP (likely depth sensor) units.
The fingerprint reader appears to be located on the power button, which would make the display IPS, which is expected at this price.
All this will then be powered by a 4040mAh battery that is charged with 18W speeds.
The interesting aspect of it is the unannounced MediaTek MT6853V SoC. Digital Chat Station claims this is the Tianji 720 but they are unsure, that would be translated to the Mediatek Dimensity 720 which I reported about previously, other outlets are claiming a Dimensity 600 is set to launch soon.
China Telecom indicates the chipset will have a frequency of 2Ghz, though this doesn’t reveal much
Other leaks claim that the phone has memory configurations – 4GB/128GB, 6GB/128GB and 8GB/128GB, which according to China Telecom are priced at CNY1,699 (£193/$240), CNY1,799 (£204/$260) and CNY1,999 (£227/$285), respectively. While those prices wouldn’t translate accurately to the UK market, it is still an incredible price for a 5G phone
