Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti vs RTX 3080 vs RTX 3090 Benchmarks – New leaks show the obvious, sitting in the middle of the two existing cards

Tomorrow, on the 31st of May, it is expected Nvidia will launch their latest Nvidia GeForce RTX 30 series graphics cards, the Ti variants of the RTX 3080 and RTX 3070.

Release & Review Dates

It is expected that reviews for the RTX 3080 Ti will be out on the 2nd of June with retail availability on the 3rd of June.

For the RTX 3070 Ti the dates are expected to be the 9th of June and 10th of June

Price and Retail Availability / Stock Levels

I think the pressing concern for most people will be what the stock levels are like and how much of a markup compared to the launch price of the RTX 3070/3080 there is.

Neither of these is known for now, but we have seen stores gradually increase the price of the GPUs since launch, and scalpers are still selling cards for exorbitant markups.

Will the RTX 3080 Ti & RTX 3070 Ti uses “LHR” (Lower Hash Rate) crypto mining limiting?

There is no official word on this yet, but it is expected that Nvidia will use an imposed limit on the GPU’s “hash rate,” which would make it ineffective at mining the digital currency Ethereum.

With massive consumer demand from gamers, the stock is still going to be an issue, and scalpers will certainly be a problem.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti vs RTX 3080 vs RTX 3090 Benchmarks

More recently, a handful of benchmarks have come out which indicates performance.

So far, we have Ashes of The Singularity and Geekbench. Neither of which are the pinnacle of GPU benchmarking, and I wouldn’t regard these as an accurate indication of overall performance.

In particular, the Ashes of The Singularity scores 9300 using the RTX 3080 Ti equipped with an AMD Ryzen 9 3900X playing the game at 1080P on the Crazy_1080p present level.

The closest comparison I can find is the same spec but the RTX 3080 and with 32GB of ram vs 16GB, and this actually scores higher than the RTX 3080 Ti.

For the Geekbench result, the test was the CUDA benchmark. The RTX 3080 Ti is showing up in the GPU charts, and I found a similar system running the RTX 3090.

The results are as you would expect. The RTX 3080 Ti sits bang in the middle of the RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 in performance.

The benchmark chart indicates:

  • RTX 3090 scores 238988
  • RTX 3080 Ti scores 226692
  • RTX 3080 scores 201799

That’s 11% higher than the RTX 3080 and 9.77% behind the RTX 3090

Overall

The overall performance of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti isn’t really that important to me as it is obvious that it is going to be fantastic.

How it is priced compared to the existing cards is more interesting. I suspect the price will be disproportionately higher than the launch price of the RTX 3080 in relation to the increased performance. The insane level of demand means Nvidia and their retail partners can charge pretty much what they want.
