Last year the Asus ROG phone stood out from the crowd with their speed binned Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chips. This year, Qualcomm has officially released a new faster chip catering to the gaming market, the Snapdragon 855 Plus. Some say it is to fend off the new Kirin 985 which is set to launch, or maybe it is just to make the most of the growing mobile gaming market.
This year the Black Shark 2 has been one of the best gaming phones on the market, mainly because it is so affordable. This now appears to be getting an upgrade with a Pro model, which is due to arrive on the 30th of July and was announced on the Chinese microblogging platform Weibo.
The new phone has popped up on Geekbench scoring 3,632 and 11,304 points in the benchmark’s single and multi-core tests respectively while revealing its key specs like 12GB RAM and Android Pie.
The Snapdragon 855+ is an overclocked version of the 855 promising 4.2% improvement in CPU and 15% improvement in GPU performances.
Asus has already announced that its upcoming ROG Phone 2 which is set to launch on 23rd July in China, will come powered by the SD855 Plus chipset. Nubia Red Magic 3 is also getting a refresh with a Snapdragon 855+ edition. Early rumours suggested that the Samsung Note 10 will feature the new chip, but it now appears that this is not the case.
As the phone has only just been announced on Weibo it is unknown if or when the phone will be launch in Western markets nor the price.
