AMD cuts Radeon RX 5700 price to compete with Nvidia’s Super RTX 2060 / 2070

It is a good day for consumers, under the threat that the Radeon RX 5700 will compete with the RTX 2070 & 2060 we have already seen Nvidia launch their Super cards, offering more performance for the same price as the original RTX parts.

Some view it as a bit of an underhanded move by Nvidia, but now AMD is countering by lowering the price of the up and coming Radeon RX 5700 models.

The base Radeon RX 5700 with 36 compute units and speeds of up to 1.7GHz was originally announced at $379, but will instead hit shelves at $349 – the same price as Nvidia’s RTX 2060.

The 5700 XT card that brings 40 compute units and up to 1.9GHz speed will be $50 cheaper than expected, launching at $399. This is the model that is supposed to offer the same performance as a standard RTX 2070.

Then the 50th Anniversary with a slightly higher boost speed and stylish gold trim that will cost $449 instead of $499.

This is a bold move from AMD and a wise one at that. If the rumours are true that the 5700 XT delivers RTX 2070 levels of performance, the pricing needs to sit comfortably under the RTX 2070 Super pricing to make it a better value buy.

This shift in pricing will bring the RX 5700 XT to the same pricing levels as the RTX 2060 Super Founders Edition, and the RTX 2060S offers similar performance to the now end of life standard RTX 2070.
