The new AMD 3000XT range of CPUs launches on 7/7/2020 offering improved boost frequencies over the older models and higher prices.
AMD 3000XT CPUs – Prices and Specification vs AMD 3000X CPUs
The three new chipsets include:
- AMD Ryzen 5 3600XT offering a 100Mhz improvement in the turbo frequency.
- Official RRP of $249 – likely £249 in UK.
- 27% more expensive than existing Ryzen 5 3600X prices (£195)
- AMD Ryzen 7 3800XT offering a 200Mhz improvement in the turbo frequency.
- Official RRP of $399 – likely £399 in UK.
- 41% more expensive than existing Ryzen 7 3800X prices (£282)
- AMD Ryzen 9 3900XT offering a 100Mhz improvement in the turbo frequency.
- Official RRP of $499 – likely £499 in UK.
- 30% more expensive than existing Ryzen 9 3900X prices (£382)
Those price differences don’t look particularly favourable when you look at the meagre improvement in frequencies, but they are actually launching at the same RRP as the older CPUs. Like most technology, you will get better value for money opting for an older generation.
Benchmarks
Early leaks of 3800XT benchmarks in Ashes of the Singularity showed scores in certain tests could be as high as 12% difference but around 5% for others.
Now the CPUs have been seen on GeekBench by serial leaker TUM_APISAK which shows some reasonably impressive results.
AMD Ryzen 5 3600XT vs Ryzen 5 3600X
The two AMD Ryzen 5 3600XT results are 1361/7914 and 1388/7910 for single and multi-core.
So if we take the average of 1375 and 7912 then compare it against the result from the official Ryzen 5 3600X which states 1239 and 6914 for the two tests.
The AMD Ryzen 5 3600XT has results 11% and 14% higher.
AMD Ryzen 5 3600XT vs Intel Core i5-10600K & i7-10700K
As with all CPU launches, there will be arguments about AMD vs Intel. So when we look at two of the recent Intel launches the £378 Intel Octa-Core i7 10700K and the £255 Intel Hex Core i5 10600K.
There is no official page for 10600K, so I had to take an average over various results. In general, most seem to post low 1300s for the single-core and around the 7000 mark for multi-core. The results for the 10700K is from the official page.
- Intel Core i7 10700K
- Single Core – 1353
- Multi Core – 8968
- Intel Core i5 10600K
- Single Core – 1342
- Multi Core – 6939
This would then mean the 3600XT is ahead by 1.6% and 2.45% when comparing the single core for the two chipsets.
And then behind the Intel Core i7 10700K by 13% for the multi core, but ahead of the 10600K by 14%.
Overall
The new AMD 3600XT seems to offer a bigger improvement in benchmarks than the small frequency boost would suggest, but for anyone looking for a budget gaming system, the Ryzen 5 3600X will represent better value for money.
It is early days to draw definitive conclusions against the Intel CPUs, a couple of leaked benchmarks may not be the same as the final performance. However, the AMD Ryzen 5 3600XT does look like it will offer superior performance at a fractionally lower price point than the i5 10600K and fares well against the much more expensive 10700K.
