Announced back in November, the MediaTek Dimensity 1000 looked like it could be one of the best chipsets for 2020 with arguably more impressive specs than the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 or Samsung Exynos 990 thanks to the integrated 5G modem and AV1 codec support.
Back when it was launched, Mediatek claimed the chipset would hit 511363 in Antutu, which at the time was very impressive, better than anything Qualcomm had to offer.
Since then, no phone with the Dimensity 1000 has launched, but numerous phones with the Snapdragon 865 have, which was announced in December.
Qualcomm Benchmarks
This has led to the Antutu rankings being dominated by Qualcomm phones, with the Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro, OnePlus 8 Pro, and Mi 10 all sitting at the top of the official rankings each with over 580K.
Many other phones also score very high, with the Realme X50 Pro scoring 591514 in my review and the Black Shark 3 achieving 572437.
It has also been reported that the iQOO Neo 3 scores 608801 in Antutu.
MediaTek recently updated there chipset to be compatible with 144Hz displays and claimed it was a new chipset with the name Dimensity 1000+.
This is set to be used on the iQOO Z1 which will launch on the 19th of May.
iQOO Z1 vs iQOO Neo 3 Antutu Benchmark
The company has now just released a teaser claiming the phone managed to score more than 530,000 points on AnTuTu Benchmark.
This still makes it an incredibly powerful chipset, but it shows that Mediatek is not quite ready to take on Qualcomm yet falling shy of the Qualcomm scores by almost 13% when comparing to the iQOO Neo 3.
It does, however, outperform the Samsung Exynos 990 which is found in the Samsung Galxy S20 series phones in the UK/EU.
The lower score doesn’t necessarily mean the MediaTek Dimensity 1000+ is worse than Qualcomm, battery efficiency and the cost of the phone also play a role. It could be that the integrated 5G modem of the Mediatek allows it to be more power-efficient.
iQOO Z1 Pricing
As for the pricing, leaks indicate that the 6GB RAM + 128GB Storage variant of the device could be priced at 2,698 yuan (£308/$352).
In comparison, the iQOO Neo 3 which launched recently also launched at 2,698 yuan (£308/$352).
The Black Shark 3 launched in China with 8GB/128GB for 3499 yuan (£400/$502).
Then the Red Magic 5G launched with 8GB/128GB for 3799 yuan (£434/$540).
iQOO Z1 Display Specification & Colours
So the iQOO Z1 looked good when you compare it to competing brands, but unless something is significantly better than the existing Neo 3 there may not be much point in opting for the Z1 over the Neo 3
Beyond the chipset, iQOO has confirmed that the iQOO Z1 screen will support a maximum refresh rate of 144Hz. The leaked image of the phone revealed that it will provide users to switch between refresh rate options like 60Hz, 90Hz, 120Hz and 144Hz.
New renders show that the iQOO Z1 will be available in at least two colour variants. The images show that the smartphone is fitted with a rectangle-shaped camera housing at the top-left corner of its back panel. It houses an LED flash and three cameras.
