nubia Z20 announced with Dual-Screen, Snapdragon 855, and no need for the front-facing camera

If you fancy something different from all the generic clones out there then the newly announced nubia Z20 might pique your interest.

Offering a unique alternative to pop-up or rotating selfie cameras, the nubia Z20 boasts a worldclass front-facing camera and a bezel-less display. In addition to groundbreaking display technology, the nubia Z20 also features flagship specs: the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus, a triple camera, UFS 3.0 storage, up to 8GB RAM + 512GB of ROM, and a 4,000mAh battery with up to 27W PD fast charging.

The nubia Z20 goes on sale in China on August 16th, with a global launch (USA/Canada/EU/UK) set for September 2019.

Quick look:

  • Bezelless 6.42″ FHD+ display
  • Fully-functional 5.1” rear display
  • Triple camera setup (main + ultra wide angle + telephoto)
  • Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 855+
  • 4000mAh battery with up to 27W PD Fast Charge
  • Up to 8GB RAM and 512GB ROM
  • UFS 3.0 Storage

The two screens can operate independently, for quick-switching between apps. The rear screen also doubles as an always-on display and can be custom mapped in games for added usability. The phone runs nubia’s UI 7.0 on top of Android Pie.

The main screen of the nubia Z20 is a curved 6.42-inch FHD+ AMOLED panel with minimal top and bottom bezels and no front-facing camera.

The secondary   5.1-inch HD+ AMOLED panel will then allow you to shoot selfies using the power of the full rear camera set up.

The primary shooter has a 48MP Sony IMX 585 sensor and OIS, while the other two units are a 16MP ultrawide angle and 8MP telephoto with 3X optical zoom. The cameras have a dual-LED flash to keep them company.

While the press release states 8GB of RAM and 512GB of UFS 3.0 storage there are multiple specifications including 6GB and 128GB.

The phone comes with two fingerprint scanners located on the sides of the chassis, so no matter which display you use there’s always one in the right place.

The sides of the device are also pressure sensitive and can be squeezed to perform different actions like toggling the assistant.

The base version with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage comes in at CNY 3,499 (£408), there’s also an 8/128GB variant for CNY 3,699 (£432) while the top-spec 8/512GB unit will set buyers back CNY 4,199 (£490).

Expect the UK pricing to be considerably higher due to tax and things.

I have to admit this is an impressively specced phone that is a little different from the others on the market. The one big issue for me is that you wont be able to use a case with it, and I am a bit of a clutz so two screens and no case is asking for trouble.
