Oppo Reno 4 Z with MediaTek Dimensity 800 & 120Hz LCD launches today for £329, Reno4 5G with SD765G for £449

OPPO will be officially launching the Reno4 Series today at 9:30 AM during a live stream event on their social channels.

However, it would seem someone hit the publish button on their sponsored Amazon adverts early, confirming pricing and key details. The adverts themselves lead to 404 page not found.

The two adverts I have seen so far are for the Oppo Reno4 5G with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G and the Oppo Reno4 Z with the MediaTek Dimensity 800 5G chipset.

Both phones have already been announced previously, the Reno4 was launched back in June in its native markets, then the Reno4 Z is just a rebrand of the A92s which launched in April. It is possible some specs may get tweaked for the UK/EU market.

Just to be confusing (as usual from Oppo), it looks like the Reno4 in the UK is the 5G model, but there is also a Reno4 launched internationally with the Snapdragon 720G. There are currently 8 different Reno4 devices available globally

This is the more exciting launch, representing the first phone outside of China to use a MediaTek Dimensity chipset. There is a good chance that this chipset will actually offer superior performance than the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G in the more expensive model.

The other big change here is the switch to a 120Hz LCD display vs the 60Hz AMOLED. Some may view this as an upgrade, others not. However, the combination of the display and chipset make this a promising phone for mobile gamers.

Then it looks like there will be quite a big difference in charge speeds with the Reno4 Z only having 18W charge.

While the camera specification remains the same on the rear, the camera layout has changed(they just rebranded the OPPO A92s). Not that really makes any difference

  • Display: 6.57 inches, 2400×1080, 120Hz
  • Chipset: MediaTek Dimensity 800 5G
  • Rear Camera: 48MP 1/2.0″ primary lens, 8MP ultra wide, 2MP depth
  • Selfie Camera: 16 MP, 2MP depth
  • Battery: 4000 mAh
  • Charging: 18W

Oppo Reno4 Pro 5G

I have no idea if this is launching today, but it is almost identical in specification to the Find X2 Neo, so I would say it is unlikely.

  • Display: 6.55 inches AMOLED, 2400×1080, 90HZ
  • Chipset: Snapdragon 765G
  • Rear Camera: 48MP 1/2.0″ primary lens, 13MP telephoto lens, 12MP ultra-wide
  • Selfie Camera: 32MP
  • Battery: 4000 mAh
  • Charging: 65W

Oppo Reno4 vs Find X2 Neo & Find X2 Lite

Oppo Reno 4 Z with MediaTek Dimensity 800 & 120Hz LCD launches today for £329, Reno4 5G with SD765G for £449 4

The Oppo Reno4 is the third phone to launch with the SD765G from OPPO (in the UK).

The existing Find X2 models have been out for several months.

The Oppo Find X2 Neo is more of a premium phone with its beautiful curved AMOLED display running at 90hz which currently sells for £599

The Find X2 Lite is suspiciously similar to the Reno4 but a little cheaper at just £399.

The main differences are that the AMOLED display now uses a pill-shaped cutout with an additional 2MP depth sensor.

They have ditched the black and white sensory on the rear and got rid of the 3.5mm headphone jack.

Oppo Reno4 vs OnePlus Nord

Then if you look at the insanely popular OnePlus Nord which is just £379 on Amazon, they again are very similar every the with the overall design.

However, OnePlus has a 90hz AMOLED display, they have an additional 2MP macro lens on the rear, and the front-facing depth sensor on the Reno is an 8MP ultra-wide lens on the OnePlus.

Oppo does have the 65W charging, which is amazing, vs the 30W of the OnePlus. I am not sure that’s worth the price difference, though.

Overall

The Oppo Reno4 Z is the stand out model of the two. At £329 it is competitively priced against the Realme X50 making it one of the most affordable 5G options on the market.

While the Oppo Reno4 will be great, there are so many similar options within BBK Electronics list of brands (OPPO, Realme, OnePlus) that it makes it hard to stand out
