Qualcomm Snapdragon 768G vs Snapdragon 765G vs 730G vs 720G Compared – Qualcomm focus on the upper-midrange

It was previously leaked that the new Xiaomi Redmi K30 5G Racing Edition would feature a brand new chipset from Qualcomm called the Snapdragon 768G SoC.

This has now been confirmed, and much like the SD855+ from last year, the Snapdragon 768G is the same silicon design but using increased clock frequencies on both the CPU and GPU.

This is not a gimmick launch like Mediatek recently, the performance gains from the new chipset should make quite a difference.

This now gives Qualcomm four (recent) chipsets in the 7-series lineup. Two being 5G while the 730/720 are 4G/LTE.

The Snapdragon 730G seems to be all but forgotten about, it is almost the same specification as the SD720G but a better GPU. The last phone to launch with it was the Poco X2

For the sake of the comparison, I have ignored the none-G variants as hardly any phone uses them.

CPU

The previous leaks were accurate with the single prime core receiving a 0.4Ghz boost in frequency compared to the SD765G and the slower Kryo 475 Gold getting a boost of 0.2Ghz. This represents a  16.6% increase to its frequency for the Prime and 9% for the Gold.

Then the lower specced Snapdragon 730G and 720G use a 2X6 layout with lower frequencies. The Snapdragon 730G is slower with 2x Cortex-A76 @ 2.2GHz while the Snapdragon 720G gets a 0.1Ghz bump with 2x Cortex-A76 @  2.3GHz.

GPU

Qualcomm has not confirmed the frequencies of the GPU nor do they ever provide the official specification of GOU frequencies. You are just left guessing what the number Adreno might mean.

However, the leak previously reported that the Adreno 620 runs at 750MHz while the Snapdragon 765G is reported to run at 625MHz. Qualcomm officially state that the new GPU has a +15% performance improvement over 765G.

If the frequencies are true, that represents a 20% improvement. So it should be roughly accurate.

For the Snapdragon 730G that has an Adreno 618 clocked at 575 MHz then the 720G is slower at Adreno 618 @ 500 MHz

The Snapdragon 768G is the first 7-series platform to support Adreno Updateable GPU drivers and it can support screens of up to 120Hz refresh rate.

Benchmarks – Antutu – Geekbench – 3D Mark

The chipset and Xiaomi Redmi K30 5G Racing Edition have only just been announced so there are no official benchmarks

The leaks also claimed that the new chipset achieved around 360,000 on AnTuTu. The current Redmi K30 5G with the Snapdragon 765G  scores around 300k, this would represent a 20% boost in the AnTuTu score.

The SD730G in the Realme X2 achieved 258,311 then the SD720G in the Realme 6 Pro achieved 70801.
