Redmi Note 9 Pro Max announced with Snapdragon 720G – conveniently skipped Helio G90T & SD730G performance comparisons (Antutu is lower than Helio G90T)

Xiaomi sub-brand Redmi has just announced their latest affordable mid-range phone, the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max, because a Pro moniker wasn’t enough.

Chipset

During the announcement, Redmi highlighted how good the new Snapdragon 720G and how one publication, TechPP stated that the Snapdragon 720G is actually better than the Snapdragon 730G and Helio G90T.

The announcer then goes on to compare Antutu benchmarks with a notable absence of the SD720G and Helio G90T. Instead, they used the standard SD730 for the comparison, which is the lower clocked none gaming orientated chipset.

They claim the phones scores 280,041 in Antutu and in my review of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro I achieved 281,295. Admittedly I only got 258,311 testing the Realme X2 which had the SD730G so they may not be completely wrong about the performance vs the older Qualcomm.

Storage and Ram

The phone will have a 2+1 set up with the SIM allowing you to expand the storage with MicroSD while also using a second SIM. The phone will use the older UFS2.1 storage which is a bit slower than this year’s flagship.

Storage and Ram options go up to 8GB and 128GB storage.

Cameras

The camera arrangement is impressive for a mid-range phone, it has a 64MP quad-camera array which includes the 64MP main camera, 8MP ultra-wide, 5MP macro and 2MP depth.

The in-display selfie camera is 32MP, which is the highest
ever resolution in a Redmi Note smartphone.

GPS – NavIC

Not relevant for UK buyers but the new phone features GPS navigation via Indias own NavIC on top of the American GPS and GLONASS

Battery

The phone comes with a massive 5020mAh battery with a 33W
fast charging.

Pricing

Three memory options will hit the market on March 25 – 6/64
GB, 6/128 GB, and 8/128 GB. Pricing starts from INR14,999 (£157), goes through
INR16,999 (£178) and reaches INR18,999 (£199) for the most powerful variant.
