Samsung Galaxy S21 vs iPhone 12 Pro Max Antutu Benchmark Leak – Random Stuff 2 video is very likely a fake

With the  Samsung Galaxy S21 launching in the next couple of months, the leaks and rumours are in full force.

Normally by launch, there have been enough leaks to know almost everything about a phone, but a lot of the leaks will be fake with users trying to get views or followers.

A new leak from, Youtuber, Random Stuff 2, in my opinion, appears to be one of them leaks.

This user has recently been quoted by many major outlets such as GSMArena, the Verge and Android Community. To be fair to them, I regularly post about inaccurate leaks myself, nor can I guarantee this leak is real or not. This is just the state of the tech media industry we all report leaked information with little concern of accuracy in the hope it will generate traffic.

Shortly after posting the video and gaining all that press attention, he deletes them. This could possibly be a result of takedown requests or something else. Currently, the profile has just this one video, it’s only got 5500 views as I write this, but his account has managed to amass 289K subscribers.

Previous videos appear to have shown off the design of the phone and given Geekbench results.

Samsung Galaxy S21 vs iPhone 12 Pro Max Antutu Benchmark YouTube Video

By Random Stuff 2

The video shows the Antutu benchmark of the Samsung Galaxy S21 vs iPhone 12 Pro Max. He shows the benchmark briefly running then cuts to the results.

At a passing glance, everything looks impressive the result he shows seems to indicate the Samsung Galaxy S21 scoring 634461, 44% higher than the 441227 the Apple iPhone manages.

However, a quick look over at the official results on Antutu shows that the iPhone 12 Pro Max (6+256) scores 638841, making the Apple score 0.7% higher than the Samsung.

Two completely different flagship chipsets scoring 0.7% difference raised a few red flags with me.

Suspiciously similar results

iPhone 12 Pro Max  Samung Galaxy S21
SM-G996U
Percentage difference
CPU 176298 176322 0.013
GPU 257062 257258 0.076
Mem 110861 104955 -5.327
UX 94613 95926 1.388
Total 638841 634461 0.686

Comparing the breakdown of the results shows even more startling similarities between the official iPhone result and the claimed Samsung Galaxy S21

With a 0.013% difference in the CPU and a 0.076% difference in the GPU, in my opinion, this appears to be totally impossible from two different chipsets.

Video Edits

I went back to the video, and note how I previously said he cuts to the results. With the two phones in full view, the cut takes you to a close-up view of two screens side by side. It does clearly indicate the iPhone 12 Pro Max and the Samsung states SM-G996U.

I am not sure how he would have got Antutu to display what I think is the iPhone 12 Pro Max for the S21, but I imagine it is not that hard. Either screenshot of an edited photo or somehow faking the device ID.

You get to see the bottom of the phones, side by side, but the Samsung has two bits taped over to obscure something.

Then later you do get to see the top part of the phones with the Antutu My Device comparison, but its a dark video with a phone with that has a central screen punch, which could easily be the older S20 or another device.

S21 results wouldn’t be much better than this years ROG Phone 3

Currently, the Huawei Mate 40 Pro sits at the top of the Android rankings with 661059, while the ROG Phone 3 has 632274. If this leak were accurate, that would mean the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 (or Exynos 2100) is only 0.346% better in Antutu than the Snapdragon 865+.

Anyway, I only posted this because I had originally intended on just reporting the impressive numbers. So, don’t believe all the leaks you see.
