Xiaomi Redmi K30 5G Speed Edition – Qualcomm Snapdragon 768G vs 765G Compared with Benchmarks – What’s changed?

The Xiaomi Redmi K30 5G was one of the first devices to be announced with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G back in December. This was later followed up with the flagship Redmi K30 Pro and Zoom models, which will then become the Poco F2 Pro.

The latest announcement is is that there is yet another Redmi K30 due to launch. This will be called the Redmi K30 5G Speed Edition which is set to launch on the 11th of May.

The name of the phone and the announcement date are confirmed with an official poster shared via the company on Weibo.

Xiaomi Redmi K30 5G Speed Edition Launch

The launch poster confirms the phone will be sold officially on JD.com and the overall design is identical to the existing Redmi K30 with its elongated selfie cut out.

The current JD.com listing does not give much away apart from confirming the existence of the phone.

However earlier, it has been reported that the page listed some key specifications including the yet to be announced Qualcomm Snapdragon 768G, a 120Hz refresh rate with 6GB of Ram and 128GB of storage.

The refresh rate and RAM match up to the previous model, so it doesn’t look like these will be the reason for the Speed Edition moniker.

Following this revelation, a leaker on Weibo revealed this is an actual platform by Qualcomm that will be unveiled with the new Redmi phone.

It is a little strange that the claimed original page references Xiaomi Redmi K30 5G Extreme Edition, but the updated page changes this to Speed Edition.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 768G vs 765G Specification

Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G

  • CPU:
    • 1x Kryo 475 Prime (Arm Cortex A76) @ 2.4GHz
      1x Kryo 475 Gold (Arm Cortex A76) @ 2.2GHz
    • 6x Kryo 475 Silver (Arm Cortex A55) @ 1.8GHz
  • GPU
    • Adreno 620 @ 625MHz

Qualcomm Snapdragon 768G

  • CPU:
    • 1x Kryo 475 Prime (Arm Cortex A76) @ 2.8GHz
      1x Kryo 475 Gold (Arm Cortex A76) @ 2.4GHz
    • 6x Kryo 475 Silver (Arm Cortex A55) @ 1.8GHz
  • GPU
    • Adreno 620 @ 750MHz

That is quite a big bump in frequencies, and it certainly puts the recent MediaTek launches to shame.

The single Prime core has a 16.6% increase to its frequencies while the Gold cores increase by 9%.

Then the GPU increases the frequencies by 20%.

If anything, the increase in frequencies is so high that it makes me a little sceptical, how accurate this is. If true, though, this should represent a significant boost in overall performance.

All the other features should remain the same, and this includes the 5G functionality.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 768G vs 765G Benchmarks

The leaks also claimed that the new chipset achieved around 360,000 on AnTuTu. The current Redmi K30 5G with the Snapdragon 765G  scores around 300k, this would represent a 20% boost in the AnTuTu score.

Price and Availability – No word on the UK or EU

It is claimed the price could be around 10% higher than the previous model though there does not appear to be any solid information backing this. Availability should be some time after the launch on the 11th of May.

None of the Redmi K30 devices has officially landed in the UK or EU. The Redmi K30 Pro should be launching as the Poco F2 Pro the following day on the 12th of May. It is possible they will launch a none pro model the same as the K30 5G with SD765G, but I doubt we would see the SD768G based model this soon.
